Pharmacy Assistants

Pertinent Information: Full-time 40 hours + per week. Direct hire position. Must be able to work a variety of shifts as the Pharmacy is open Monday – Friday 7:00 A.M – 8:00 P.M. Saturday & Sunday 8:00 A.M – 4:00 P.M.

Location: Tecumseh, Ontario.

Wage: $21-23/hr. Overtime pay administered after 44 working hours in a week.

Job Description

The Pharmacy Assistant is responsible for assisting the Pharmacist in the technical aspects of prescription filling and administrative duties in order to increase the Pharmacist’s opportunity to provide patient care. The Pharmacy Assistant is expected to participate in all aspects of Pharmacy Operations required of a team player. They are a key member in the delivery of superior customer service.

Responsibilities to include the following, but not limited to:

  • Receiving prescriptions from patients, following provincial legal/regulatory conditions and assessing the prescription for completeness
  • Updating patient profile and entering prescription information into the pharmacy computer system
  • Assisting Pharmacist in filling prescriptions by bringing stock bottles, counting, pouring, restocking, labeling and pricing prescriptions under direct Pharmacist’s supervision to the extent permitted by Provincial regulations. Following safety and security procedures at all times
  • Preparing third-party insurance claims, processing invoices and making accounting entries using computerized system.
  • Ordering, receiving, tagging and stocking prescription drugs and supplies. Following product storage procedures and standards.
  • Ordering, receiving, tagging and stocking over-the-counter product in accordance with merchandising plan for department.
  • Cleaning department by sweeping, mopping, spraying, wiping and dusting.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Completion of the Pharmacy Assistant program is required
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience working as a Pharmacy Assistant in a retail pharmacy
  • Experience with report generation; and able to prepare receipts, invoices, letters and memos, and general filling
  • Experience filling medication orders, including measuring, mixing, and packaging, labeling
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision;
  • Competent and efficient with pharmacy management software
  • Great customer service skills
  • Strong communication skills, both verbally and written
  • Policy and procedure driven, with respect and understanding of community differences.
