Job Description

The Productions Supervisor reports directly to the Plant Manager and is responsible for the timely manufacture of products, work-in-process and finished goods, meeting customer service/safety/quality/cost requirements through the management of personnel and operations of the factory.

Responsibilities include the following, but not limited to:

  • Oversee functional operation and resources of assigned production lines to ensure finished products attain Customer and Government standards of quality
  • Ensure assigned production areas are operating to achieve desired production targets, report variances and work to resolve production issues as required
  • Monitor and review direct standards of work for associates through daily analysis of labour, production performance vs schedule, quality check sheets, etc
  • Ensure appropriate training and training verification is completed, and records are maintained in support of all site and legislative requirements.
  • Responsible to ensure a safe working environment and work is performed in accordance with safe work practices
  • Conduct employee performance evaluations, assist with resolution of grievances and keep appropriate records thereof.
  • Ensure continuity of personnel supply for operations through promotion of good relations with hourly and salaried employees.
  • Ensure downtime tracking is being reported accurately as means to understand impact of top losses, emerging/trending issues and to help identify root cause and/or corrective actions, as required.
  • Support daily and monthly operational status reporting including, but not limited to Safety, Quality and OEE performance metrics.
  • Support Site Operational Goals
  • Assist with the development of training documentation, work procedures, business processes and various continuous improvement projects, as required to maximize quality and productivity.
  • Ensure safety policies, quality standards and standard operating procedures are followed.


  • Post secondary education preferred but not required
  • Minimum three (3) years previous work experience as a Production Supervisor in manufacturing facility
  • Ability to assess various options and make decisions
  • A broad past experience in various areas of manufacturing, such as Production, Maintenance, Quality and Administration is an asset.
  • Union experience is required
  • Proficiency with and ability to learn software systems
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing / Continuous Improvement Principals
  • Knowledge of Ministry of Environment Regulations is an asset
  • Knowledge of WSIB, Ontario Employment Standards and Human Rights Commission is an asset
