Job Description
Reporting to the Plant Manager and directly responsible for 60-70 associates in the Shipping/Warehouse department, this experienced leader oversees all activities related to shipping, warehousing, coil receiving and inventory management.
Responsibilities include the following, but not limited to:
- Managing operations to achieve world-class shipping and warehouse efficiency
- Developing, recommending, and implementing continuous improvement practices to reduce waste and inefficiencies
- Establishing and enforcing policies and procedures for shipping operations
- Promoting and enforcing health and safety work practices as required by the company and occupational health and safety standards
- Providing expertise and training to all shipping areas
- Effectively communicating short and long-term objectives to the Warehouse team
- Collaborating with production, logistics, quality sales, production planning, and HR to improve processes and reduce inefficiencies
- Building and maintaining a positive, team-oriented environment among shipping personnel
- Overseeing, supervising, training and performance managing shipping operations personnel
- Reviewing daily shipping reports for compliance and resolving issues to ensure minimal costs and preventing shipping delays
- Ensuring inventory accuracy is maintained
- Developing shipping, vacation and training schedules for shipping personnel and coil receivers
- Evaluating employee performance objectively based on job requirements and behavioural indicators
- Immediately reporting suspected security incidents and maintaining the confidentiality of sensitive information
- Delegating work to appropriate personnel and providing accurate, complete and timely instructions for task completion
- Other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Degree in Business Management in an industrial, manufacturing or warehousing related field if preferred
- Five (5) + years of supervisory experience in warehousing and shipping
- Knowledge of steel tube/pipe production a definite asset
- Experience with 3PL, including JIT and rail loading
- Thorough knowledge of JIT, SAP and MS Office Suite, including Telia dashboard and crane HMI
- Demonstrated strong leadership and communication skills
- Ability to adapt quickly and effectively to meet the needs of the organization
- Fundamental working knowledge of warehousing and shipping, plant, industrial and manufacturing concepts
- Proven decision-making, problem-resolution, communication and organizational time management skills
- Ability to multitask and manage effectively in a fast-paced environment
