HR Generalist – Attendance, WSIB & Medical Leave Management

Pertinent Information: Full-time, direct hire position. This is a newly created role that will coordinate and manage daily attendance tracking and follow-up to ensure compliance with attendance policies. It will require a self-starter who has a great deal of initiative as well as someone who is highly organized. Full details to be provided at time of interview.

Wage: $55,000 – $65,000 + comprehensive benefits package.

Job Description

The HR Generalist provides comprehensive human resources support with a specialized focus on managing attendance programs, workplace injury claims under the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) and coordinating medical leaves for non-work-related injuries or illnesses. This role ensures compliance with legislative requirements, promotes safe return-to-work programs, and supports overall HR operations including recruitment, employee relations, and policy administration.

Responsibilities to include the following, but not limited to:

WSIB & Workplace Injury Management

  • Administer WSIB claims from initial reporting through resolution, ensuring compliance with all WSIB regulations and timelines.
  • Act as the primary liaison between employees, managers, WSIB representatives, and healthcare providers.
  • Develop and implement return-to-work plans in collaboration with supervisors and medical professionals.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and reporting for all workplace injury cases.
  • Monitor trends and provide recommendations to reduce workplace injuries and improve safety practices.

General Attendance & Medical Leave Management

  • Coordinate medical leaves for non-work-related injuries or illnesses, including communication with employees and insurance providers.
  • Support employees through accommodation processes in compliance with the Ontario Human Rights Code and company policies.
  • Track and manage all related documentation while ensuring confidentiality.

General HR Duties

  • Assist with recruitment, onboarding, and orientation processes.
  • Provide guidance on HR policies, procedures, and employment legislation.
  • Support employee relations, performance management, and disciplinary processes.
  • Maintain HRIS data integrity and prepare reports as required.

Qualifications

  • Degree/Diploma in Human Resources.
  • CHRP designation or working towards certification preferred.
  • Minimum 1 year of HR experience, with strong experience in attendance management, WSIB and medical leave management.
  • Strong knowledge of Ontario employment legislation, WSIB processes, and accommodation requirements.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and HRIS systems.
