Job Description

Working closely with the Senior Estimator, the Estimator (Structural) is responsible for preparing, reviewing, and presenting estimates for specific Structural Steel project proposal activities.

Estimating:

  • Preparation of customer quotations
  • Obtaining cost estimates from suppliers and determining raw material specifications
  • Preparing materials, labour and equipment cost estimations necessary to carry out a project according to proposals, plans, estimates and specifications
  • Applying profit mark up and recommending the final selling price to management for customer quote
  • Reviewing design options and recommending best solution bases on costs, engineering quality or availability of materials
  • Providing technical assistance in negotiating contracts, change orders, etc. as required
  • Working closely with customers to determine what their needs/application is
  • Overall technical coordination of design and development activities with the engineering function to ensure that all customer requirements are addressed
  • Creating bills of materials, costs estimates, material estimates, time allocation, and scheduling
  • Establishing and maintaining detailed technical plans, estimates and schedules
  • Responsible for managing engineering drawings and other documents related to the project

Qualifications

  • Diploma or degree in an Engineering discipline (including Civil Engineering) or in Design.
  • In excess of one (1) year estimating experience would be a major asset – will train on in-house software.
  • Minimum two (2) years Structural Estimating experience.
  • Ability to read blueprints and designs. Any design experience a major asset.
  • Familiarity with ProCor not required but would be an advantage
  • Strong analytical skills and demonstrated problem solving ability
  • A structural steel background would be a definitive asset.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a cross-function team
