Human Resources Generalist

Pertinent information: Full-time, direct hire position. Role will have a primary focus on Time & Attendance and Payroll preparation, along with benefits administration and as such, all candidates must clearly show this experience. Role will also include recruitment, onboarding/offboarding and administrative duties. Full details to be provided at time of interview.

Wage: $75,000 – $85,000/year. Comprehensive benefits package included.

Job Description

Our customer is seeking an experienced and hands-on Human Resources Generalist to support a broad range of HR functions in a fast-paced production/manufacturing environment. This position will have a strong focus on benefits administration, time and attendance management, payroll preparation, full-cycle recruitment, onboarding, and HR administration while serving as a key resource for both hourly and salaried employees.

Responsibilities to include the following, but not limited to:

Benefits Administration

  • Administer employee benefit and pension programs, including enrollments, terminations, status changes, and annual renewals.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for employee benefit inquiries and assist employees in understanding available programs.
  • Coordinate disability claims, leaves of absence, return-to-work programs, and accommodation requests.
  • Liaise with benefit providers, brokers, and insurance carriers to resolve employee issues and ensure accurate administration.
  • Maintain accurate benefit records and ensure compliance with company policies and applicable legislation.
  • Assist with annual benefits reviews and employee communications regarding program changes.

Time & Attendance / Payroll Preparation

  • Administer the company’s time and attendance system for hourly and salaried employees.
  • Review employee attendance, overtime, vacation, statutory holiday, and leave records for accuracy.
  • Monitor absenteeism trends and provide reports to management.
  • Investigate attendance discrepancies and work with supervisors to resolve issues.
  • Prepare and validate payroll data prior to submission to payroll processing.
  • Ensure accurate tracking of shift premiums, overtime, attendance bonuses, and other payroll-related items.
  • Generate payroll and attendance reports as required by management.

Full-Cycle Recruitment

  • Assist with recruitment activities for manufacturing positions including production operators, machine operators, skilled trades, maintenance personnel, warehouse staff, quality personnel, and administrative employees.
  • Partner with department managers and supervisors to identify staffing requirements and workforce planning needs.
  • Prepare and post job advertisements across multiple recruitment platforms.
  • Source candidates through job boards, networking, referrals, community partnerships, and social media.
  • Screen resumes, conduct interviews, coordinate plant tours, and schedule hiring meetings.
  • Conduct reference checks and assist with employment offers and negotiations.
  • Maintain recruitment metrics and support initiatives to reduce turnover and improve employee retention.

Onboarding & Employee Orientation

  • Coordinate all new hire onboarding activities.
  • Prepare employment agreements, orientation packages, and required documentation.
  • Conduct new employee orientation sessions covering company policies, workplace expectations, benefits, payroll procedures, and health and safety requirements.
  • Coordinate training schedules and ensure completion of mandatory training programs.
  • Track probationary periods and provide reminders to supervisors regarding performance evaluations.
  • Support employee integration and engagement initiatives to improve retention.

HR Administration

  • Maintain employee files, HRIS records, and confidential documentation in accordance with company policies and legislative requirements.
  • Prepare employment-related correspondence including offer letters, status changes, disciplinary documentation, employment verification letters, and other HR communications.
  • Track employee training, certifications, licenses, and compliance requirements.
  • Generate HR metrics and reports related to attendance, turnover, recruitment, headcount, and employee demographics.
  • Assist with policy administration and HR process improvements.
  • Support employee engagement activities and recognition programs.

Employee Relations & Compliance

  • Provide guidance and support to supervisors and employees regarding company policies, procedures, and employment legislation.
  • Assist with employee relations matters, investigations, conflict resolution, and disciplinary processes.
  • Support performance management and corrective action initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with Employment Standards legislation, Human Rights legislation, workplace privacy requirements, and company policies.
  • Participate in audits and ensure HR records remain compliant and current.

Qualifications

  • Degree/Diploma in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • CHRP designation or working toward designation is considered an asset.
  • Minimum three (3) years of Human Resources experience in a generalist role, preferably within a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience supporting both hourly and salaried workforces.
  • Strong background in benefits administration and payroll preparation.
  • Proven experience with full-cycle recruitment for manufacturing and industrial positions.
  • Experience administering attendance management programs and timekeeping systems.
  • Experience with employee relations, workplace investigations, and policy administration.
  • Experience with HRIS, payroll, and time and attendance systems (ADP, UKG/Kronos, Ceridian Dayforce, Workday, or similar).
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Ability to analyze workforce data and prepare management reports.
