Plant Manager – Plastic Injection Facility

Job Description:

The Plant Manager is the senior on‑site leader responsible for the overall performance, profitability, and strategic direction of a “high volume” plastics injection molding facility with over 300+ employees on a three (3) shift operation.  

This role oversees all operational departments (Production, Engineering, Logistics, Maintenance, and Quality Assurance) to ensure the plant meets safety, cost, delivery, and quality targets. 

The Plant Manager will drive operational excellence, lead cross‑functional teams, manage customer and supplier relationships, and will ensure full compliance with regulatory, corporate, and customer requirements. 

This position requires a strong blend of leadership capability, technical understanding of injection molding operations, and business acumen.

Duties to include, but not limited to:

  • Provide overall leadership to all plant functions, setting clear performance expectations and fostering a culture of accountability, safety, and continuous improvement
  • Develop and execute strategic operational plans aligned with corporate objectives
  • Lead and mentor departmental leaders to ensure cohesive, cross-functional collaboration
  • Oversee daily operations, ensuring efficient production flow and adherence to safety, quality, cost, and delivery targets
  • Drive performance improvements using Lean Manufacturing, 5S, Kaizen, and other operational excellence methodologies
  • Ensure effective capacity planning, production scheduling, and resource allocation
  • Develop and manage annual operating budgets, capital expenditure plans, and financial forecasts
  • Monitor operational KPIs and implement corrective actions to ensure profitability and cost control
  • Evaluate opportunities for cost reductions, process optimization, and margin improvement
  • Ensure all operations comply with regulatory requirements, customer specifications, and corporate policies
  • Champion a safe work environment by enforcing safety programs, hazard assessments, and continuous safety training
  • Oversee the plant’s quality management system and ensure alignment with ISO and customer quality standards
  • Customer & Supplier Relations – serve as the primary escalation point for key customer accounts, ensuring service, delivery, and quality expectations are met
  • Collaborate with Sales, Engineering, and Program Management to support new product launches and customer initiatives
  • Manage supplier relationships to ensure material availability, cost effectiveness, and consistent quality
  • Lead development, and performance management efforts for all plant staff
  • Foster a positive, inclusive work culture with emphasis on training, retention and employee engagement
  • Ensure compliance with HR policies, labour agreements (if applicable) and employment standards
  • Identify opportunities for process optimization, automation and technology upgrades
  • Lead cross functional improvement initiatives that enhance throughput, reduce scrap and improve reliability
  • Identify root causes of processing issues and correct them to prevent further process changes
  • Encourage innovation and best-practice adaptation throughout the facility

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Business, Operations Management, Engineering or a related field
  • Ten (10)+ years of progressive leadership experience in manufacturing, with at least five (5) years in a Senior Operations or Plant Management role.
  • Direct experience in plastics injection molding strongly preferred – with a strong understanding of injection molding processes, tooling, materials, and production systems.
  • Proficiency in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Solid financial acumen, including budgeting, forecasting, and cost analysis – preparing reports and presentations to Corporate 
  • Proven ability to lead large teams in a fast paced, high volume manufacturing environment.
