Production Supervisor

Pertinent Information: Direct hire position. Ideal candidate is one who is flexible to work all shifts on a rotating schedule – days/afternoons/midnights. Company has multiple facilities within close proximity so the need to work at different locations may be required from time to time.

Location: Oldcastle, ON.

Wage: $70,000/year. Overtime paid after 44 hours.

Job Description

The Production Supervisor is responsible for leading and coordinating the activities of production employees within a unionized manufacturing facility. This role ensures the safe, efficient, and cost-effective operation of production processes while maintaining quality standards, meeting production schedules, and complying with the collective bargaining agreement.

Responsibilities to include the following, but not limited to:

Production

  • Supervise mold set-ups and installation on injection molding machines
  • Direct daily production activities in a 3-shift operation
  • Oversee machine start-ups, shutdowns, and process adjustments
  • Troubleshoot equipment and coordinate corrective actions
  • Allocate manpower to meet production and efficiency targets
  • Drive improvements in methods, quality, and equipment utilization
  • Prepare and track production performance vs schedule
  • Coordinate maintenance for molds and processing equipment
  • Assign and oversee tool changes and set-up activities
  • Monitor downtime and machine utilization

Leadership & Safety

  • Train and support employees on job tasks, safety, and company expectations
  • Assign duties and manage performance, including discipline where required
  • Ensure employees follow safe work practices and procedures
  • Promote a strong safety culture and reduce workplace risks
  • Ensure operators understand job procedures and safety systems

Coordination & Operations

  • Work closely with Production Control, Maintenance, Tool Room, Materials and Quality
  • Escalate issues quickly to minimize downtime
  • Ensure support teams receive accurate information for repairs
  • Maintain clean and organized shop floor (5S standards)
  • Ensure paperwork and system reporting is completed accurately

Qualifications

  • Postsecondary education in Manufacturing, Engineering Technology, Business, or a related field is preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education and manufacturing leadership experience will be considered.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of supervisory experience within a manufacturing environment.
  • Previous experience in plastic injection molding manufacturing is strongly preferred.
  • Experience working within a unionized environment is required.
  • Familiarity with collective agreements, grievance procedures, and progressive discipline practices.
  • Experience with automotive manufacturing standards is considered an asset.
  • Mechanical aptitude and organizational skills
  • Experience with Plex or similar system is required
