Welder/Fitter

Pertinent Information: Full-time, direct hire position. Monday – Friday 7:00 am – 3:30 pm. OT after 40 hours. Full details to be provided at time of interview.

Wage: $25 – $34/hr depending on experience.

Location: Essex, ON.

Job Description

The Welder/Fitter is responsible for fitting, welding and fabricating weldments and components as per drawings and instructions.

Responsibilities to include the following, but not limited to:

  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and technical specifications to determine project requirements
  • Measure, cut, fit, and assemble metal components using various fabrication tools and equipment
  • Perform welding operations (MIG, TIG, and/or Stick) on a variety of materials including steel, stainless steel, and aluminum
  • Ensure proper alignment, fit, and dimensional accuracy of fabricated parts
  • Review and analyze specifications, sketches, drawings, ideas and related data to assess proper welding and fabrication techniques
  • Compute mathematical formulas to calculate layouts and material use
  • Measure existing components and sketch as required to be able to duplicate or repair
  • Set-up and operate machinery for fabricating purposes, such as press brake, shear, saw, drilling equipment, rolling equipment, flame cutters, plasma cutters and hydraulic presses
  • Grinding and finishing of completed components
  • Manipulate and handle steel components as needed, either manually or by use of lifing equipment – forklifts, overhead cranes, etc.

Qualifications

  • Minimum three (3) years of fitting experience in a custom fabrication or job shop environment
  • Strong ability to read and interpret complex blueprints and fabrication drawings
  • Advanced layout and fit-up skills with a focus on precision and accuracy
  • Proficiency in MIG and/or TIG welding (welding used to support fit-up completion)
  • Experience working with structural steel, stainless steel, and/or aluminum
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently on custom, non-repetitive projects
  • Strong problem-solving skills and mechanical aptitude
  • High attention to detail with a commitment to quality workmanship
  • Physically capable of handling materials and working in a shop environment
  • Valid welding certifications (e.g., CWB)
