Pay: $22.00/hour
Hours: Part Time – Week-ends
Saturday, Sunday & Mondays – 9:00 a.m – 5:00 p.m (24 hours)
Ability to take on more shifts (days/evenings throughout the week when available)
Job Description:
Assisting an 85 year old woman (who is very gentle and kind) with moderate dementia, with her basic everyday activities of daily living. Will include managing and reminding about medications, preparing meals, monitoring and reporting health changes, and offering emotional support and companionship. This role is ideal for motivated individual eager to provide compassionate care while developing their PSW/DSW skills within a supportive team environment.Duties to include:
- Assist her with personal care tasks such as dressing, grooming and personal hygiene to promote dignity and independence
- Prepare and remind about medications accurately following prescribed schedules and protocols
- Prepare nutritious meals tailored to individual dietary requirements
- Maintain a clean and safe environment by performing light housekeeping duties (there is a cleaning service)
- Monitor health status by observing changes in condition, reporting concerns promptly to family and healthcare professionals
- Provide emotional support and companionship to reduce feelings of loneliness or isolation
- Take for walks around the block or the property for fresh air and exercise
- Assist in walking her small dog when/as needed
- Play games / cards with her, including brain teasers to help keep her cognitive abilities functioning
Qualifications:
- A recent PSW/DSW college graduate, a PSW/DSW with experience or even someone who is very nurturing and loves to work with the elderly.
- Prior experience working in assisted living facilities, nursing homes, or home care environments a definitive asset
- Must be able to provide a clean “Vulnerability Police Clearance” and two (2) references.
- Patient care skills with an understanding of senior care and/or dementia care
- Knowledge of medication administration procedures and safety protocols
- Excellent caregiving skills combined with patience, empathy, and active listening abilities
- Competence in meal preparation tailored to specific dietary needs
- Familiarity with cleaning routines necessary for maintaining hygienic living spaces
